Unlimited Bandwidth Hosting

Is unlimited bandwidth hosting as good as it sounds? Typically, whenever you decide to buy hosting space, you look for two things – bandwidth and hosting space. Hosting space is the size of space you get, in GB (gigabytes) to host your website, while bandwidth is number of bytes you get to transfer your site’s webpages to your visitors when they browse your site. Bandwidth is calculated on a monthly basis. Things like images, texts, flash etc consume bandwidth and that’s why hosting space as well as bandwidth is chargeable. Unlimited bandwidth web hosting allows you have more visitors on your website without the scare of excess traffic crashing your site.

If you have a 200 page website, 50MB of hosting space is adequate. Also, if you have a simple HTML website, 1 GB to 5 GB of bandwidth space is adequate for it. Unlimited web hosting is a good option for those website owners who have a heavy graphics website and hence, require plenty of data transfer speed for a smooth and non-erroneous viewing experience.

Many hosting companies have started offering unlimited bandwidth web hosting. This is really helpful to you because this allows your website to get unlimited traffic without additional expenses. But is there really such an offer as unlimited bandwidth web hosting? Honestly, the answer is no. While it sounds very appealing, the truth is that it is yet another marketing gimmick to attract you to make a buy. By advertising about unlimited bandwidth web hosting companies are hoping that most websites won’t go over the specified bandwidth, as most of the sites take up very little bandwidth. However, there may be days when your website may breach the bandwidth limit due to increased traffic. It is on such occasion that you’ll not want you site to crash because that would mean loss of business as well as traffic!

Therefore, it is a good idea to choose a reputable company that offers unlimited bandwidth hosting so that you can make sure your website never crashes irrespective of the amount of traffic on it. But also remember that there is no such called as unlimited bandwidth hosting. Check your hosting provider’s Terms of Service to know exactly what they mean by that term.
